History is often left to be told by the largest victors thus along the way, what really happened and other names are forgotten to fit society’s point in that given time. The writer, Briar Levit knew exactly who’s forgotten story they wanted to tell in their book ‘Baseline Shift: Untold Stories of Women in Graphic Design History’. This book dives deep into women from all different backgrounds who used graphic design to earn a living and shape graphic design to be what we know it as today. It’s no surprise that the majority of these amazing women were written over in history by white rich older men, but that changed after the release of this book. Although not a lengthy book with about 15 essays inside, important moments in history are not forgotten. I absolutely can’t wait to get my hands on it, as a woman in the graphic design field myself, it’s on my ‘must have in my collection’ list. If you are interested in purchasing it is available through Princeton Architectural Press and Amazon. Maybe this will be my Christmas gift to me, we’ll see but happy reading everyone!
